Stop complaining!!

Sometimes in life, things will take a turn for the worse and more often than not, we say to ourselves and those around us “it’s not fair”, “what did I do to deserve this?” or “why do bad things always happen to me?”. One of the main philosophies that I apply in life is Bianca’s Choice Theory.

Now my closest friends have heard me on this topic more than once because it is something I feel very strongly about. I am not suggesting that it be applied in every single scenario because there is not just one principle that can explain everything, that would be simplistic. But in a large majority of cases, for a large majority of people, it does apply.

So what is this theory? Simply put, YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE!! What I mean by this is that in most situations in which we find ourselves, you have choices. There are always alternatives, however, we often deny the existence of the alternatives that would result in consequences which we consider to be unsatisfactory (for whatever reason).

The relevance of this is principle is that when we find ourselves in circumstances we don’t like, if we look back there was often a choice that we made that resulted in our current situation. For the most part, things don’t just happen to us. We play a part in the path our lives take. (Of course if you are a believer in all things being predestined then that is your right and you may wish to disregard this post entirely)

So what this means is that instead of feeling sorry for ourselves and complaining about how things worked out, we should look into ourselves and accept responsibility for the choices we made in the past that contributed to our current status. Once we have done that then we can look ahead to the path that we would like to follow and make the requisite choices to get us there.

The other benefit of this theory is that identifying the alternatives and why they (or their consequences) are undesirable to you, will often help you make a better decision and feel more comfortable about your choice.

If you think this is a useful theory, please feel free to apply it to your life. If you need help, you can always give me a call!! ;-)
