Bomb training, bummitude, boyz, blatant groupism, beach bake ….

So went my weekend of release:

Bomb warning: Ended up not boozing on Friday as intended/hoped. Did go run some errands with the sister, spent some quality time choosing shower curtains. :-)

The fascinating thing was when we went to the Tacarigua punch lady. Now this is apparently quite an experience, not to be missed. We were just getting fruit punches, but the braver heart ones go for a real punch. The even braver will go for “the bomb” which combines the various ingredients into a concoction guaranteed to ….. not sure I wanna know, eh?

The ingredients for “the bomb” are as follows:

  • Ice
  • Milk
  • Condensed milk
  • Honey
  • Granola
  • Cornflakes
  • Glucose

And that is just the base, we have not yet added the “flavour”. Whereas for a standard punch you can have any combination of the list below, the bomb includes all, everything, the whole works:

  • Peanut butter - as for your standard peanut punch
  • Channa - you know, that chick pea thing trinis love to eat
  • Figs - ummm, I don’t know if anybody ever knows what figs really are
  • Beetroot - I have to assume this is partly for the colour :-S
  • Sea moss - Ok, I got lost on this one, the pale greenish gelatinous mass she put in the blender looked really weird

Bum behaviour: Whoooooeeeeeeeee!! I did sleep this weekend! Saturday, I think I got up somewhere around 2-ish (possibly), I know Sunday was definitely 2 because my parents called and woke me up. This was some good stuff. No question as to how exhausted I was.

Born to sing: Saturday night I went to see Boyz II Men!! I hadn’t been planning to go because I had no company and it was kind of far etc. but some people from class decided they were going and my sis lent her car to the cause, so off we went all the way to the north-western tip of the island (Chaguaramas) to see the Boyz. Well, they were fantastic! Absolutely amazing! Them boyz can sing! They did their thing on stage for all of one hour and I can safely say I got my money’s worth (all TT$150 = J$1500). The rest of the show, however, could have been omitted without any lost value.

Bad behaviour: Bianca did the groupie thing. This was amusing to me because it’s been years since I did anything remotely like that. But there I was at the launch of Coke’s “Rock yuh Crib” promotion where you can win one of three artistes performing for you at your house. The 3 artistes were Ricky Jai (chutney monarch I hear), newcomer Kees (sings a kind of soca-rock-alternative blend) and Machel Montano. So see me making sure I get my poster autographed and get my pic taken with Machel. :-D That made my Sunday evening.

Bikini babe: Those of you who know me well know that the beach will fix all woes for me. So I took my sister’s car and drove with a couple friends to Maracas Bay. We were so happy, the sun was shining, exhausted ourselves fighting the rough waves, we stretched out on our towels and lay down to sleep - only to feel raindrops on our backs! :-( Ran for shelter, and clustered with all the other sad faces for a bit. As soon as it eased, we headed for our compulsory bake ‘n’ shark, then headed home. Our conclusion:

  • Fee for parking: TT$10 (split between us)
  • Bake ‘n’ shark from Richard’s: TT$15 (apparently his prices have gone up)
  • Driving home salty and sandy, feeling rested and rejuvenated: PRICELESS!!!

So here we are, week 6, session 2, new classes started today, reading starts tonight, group work starting tomorrow. Let the fun continue!!

It’s important to destress after every sessin. Glad yours was so enjoyable. Makes me sigh with longing.
