Who am I online?
So as it turns out my Bloginality is ISTP (Introvert, Sensing, Thinking, Perception). A pretty good analysis I find, even though it is based on only 4 questions. It does fit my blogging personality. See for yourself:
Because of your desire for action and Independence, you will change the format of blogging or design frequently to keep it interesting and different. Your loyalty may have you reading the same blogs over a long period of time. Even though you could be easily bored with blogging, you might find that because you like following a project through, this is a good way for you to use your alone time to sort the facts you pick up through the day.
What is even more interesting is the variation from my overall personality type. The last time I did a Myers-Briggs test (November last year to help me sort through my career woes), I was assessed to be an ESFP (Extravert, Sensing, Feeling, Perception). The scores were as follows:
EXTRAVERT: 12 SENSING: 14 THINKING: 10 JUDGING: 8
INTROVERT: 10 INTUITING: 10 FEELING: 14 PERCEPTION: 14
The closeness of the introvert and extravert scores was enlightening because it helped me see in a “tangible” way how my personality has evolved over the last decade or so. When I did this test in first year UWI I was an I/E so as I suspected I have started to become a lot more outgoing as I have gotten older.
The differences between my overall personality and my blogging personality are reasonably easily explained. My online personality is definitely more introverted, partly because I consciously censor myself online. This also helps to explain the switch from Feeling to Thinking.
My intention for my blog was never to have a completely open portal to my mind, accessible to all. That is too scary of a concept because there is a lot of stuff that I prefer to share only with those very close to me (a limited group). Even those people who spend a lot of time around me do not usually get access to that very deep part of me. My blog is a space where I can give voice to some of my mind’s workings to give people just a sense of how I work, and in some cases, just to get some of my stuff out of my head, whether anyone reads it or not. This is perhaps why I don’t actually get bored of blogging because it is often more for me than for anyone else. As with most things in life, it helps to know yourself and understand your motivations.
