Treasure-Trove
I have embarked on a mini-project at home (I have to keep busy somehow, no?) to catalogue all the books in my room. I know, I know, idleness, but it has served some other purpose. In going through my books I have started to find books I forgot I had, some of which I never finished reading, a few which I hadn’t started, and of course, some I want to re-read.
So far, I have done the 2 bookshelves behind my door. Current tally: 142 (all non-fiction). Some of the more interesting ones that I intend to visit (or revisit) in the near future:
- “The Universe in a Nutshell” (Stephen Hawking)
- “How to Think Like Leonardo da Vinci” (Michael Gelb)
- “A Complete Guide to Massage” (Susan Mumford)
- About 10 flute books (definitely need to get back to that)
I still have another couple bookcases, one with more non-fiction mostly and the other with strictly fiction stuff, plus my nightstand. This project is also giving me some added insight into my interests over the years as I see the categories into which my books fall.
You definitely can learn alot about a person by the books on their shelves. The most interesting thing I suppose is the preponderance of non-fiction, which leads one to understand the importance I place on learning and not just in a school context, but in the life-long continuous sense. It keeps my mind fresh and ensures that interesting information continues to flow into my brain. I don’t think I could live a happy life if I were not learning new things all the time. So I continue my journey through the shelves in my room to lead me on my way through life.
