To the death

Ok, so by now everyone knows the Crocodile Hunter guy, Steve Irwin, died while filming another of his nature escapades. The one thing that struck me and keeps resonating is that he died doing what he loves and being his most “himself”. Whether people think he had it coming, it was about time, or the Discovery channel caused it (all views I have heard recently), I think that in some ways his death was admirable.

He lived his life in an extremely full manner, filled with the things he had a passion for, and I’m sure when he died, he was in the middle of having fun. I think that’s the way to go. Had I heard that he died at home, in his sleep, I would have felt sorry for him. This way, my first thought was, “You go, Steve!”

So the lesson here? If we fill our lives, all the little moments, with things we love to do, then we increase the odds that when the time comes for us to leave this lifetime, we will not be caught in an idle moment, perhaps wasting time. We will go out in style, doing what we love.

Just a thought.

Right now I am feeling kinda calm emoticon calm...

Actually B I agree with you on this one. My first reaction was that his death was anti climatic, as while I admit I was one of those who routed for the animals to get him, I never really wanted him to go that way, I thnk i would have prefered of he died of natural causes, a final laugh in the face of us nay sayers. After thinking about it however, you are right, It is good to go living your life to the fullest doing what you are passionate about.

RIP Steve, A race well run.

Anti-climatic? To be killed in one of the rarest wild-life attacks? I think if he had died in a shark attack, that would have been ani-climatic. I definitely think this one was fitting. Glad you changed your mind.

I thought it ironic how he died. I mean, to battle more dangerous creatures and survive and then to die in one of the rarest ways possible- from a sting ray- is kinda ironic.

May his soul rest in peace though. And the message he lived for live on..

B, I admire the courage & character you have as it pertains to your life goals. Well done ‘Reds’. I think everyone should strive to do what they think’s best for them & hope to go out in style doing what we love. It’s also a good idea to only surround yourself with those who have encouragng words for your current undertakings/dilemna.The ‘others’ are only jealous of your freedom of choice and ability to be comfortable in your own, suddenly revealed momentum and outlook. They wishing you shared the same drudge and monotonity of their linear lives.
Know for my verbal poo…

I have to be the killjoy, it’s what I do best. While it’s great to go out doing what you love, how great is it really to go out EARLY, doing what you love? Would we have felt the same way about his death had he died at age 24, after say 1 year in the wild? Or would we have said ‘It was bound to happen… Why did that man have to keep doing those dangerous things?’ He was only 44.

Just a thought.

I still think a short life filled with the things you love would be better than a long life left unfulfilled.
