My thoughts about 'Nothing'

Dreamland

The world of dreams is a strange and mysterious place and people are so fascinated with what happens in their sleep. Just recently, I was listening to someone try to remember what other symbols besides fish in dreams meant someone you know is pregnant.

There is always debate about whether your dreams represent subconscious desires or premonitions of things to come. Are they a product of the worrisome thoughts before sleep, or simply images compiled from our experiences?

Sometimes dreams are purely fantastical, with imaginary creatures and monsters. Yet other nights the dream may seem so real it leaves us disoriented when we awake.  Who has never woken up when they clutched the bed mid-fall? Or felt their heart racing from the run in their dreams?

Then there are the occasions when reality intrudes on the dreams. The telephone that turns out to be an alarm clock. The rain that is really pouring outside. The mysterious distant voice calling your name that turns out to be your mother.

So who is to say exactly where dreams and reality separate? Maybe we’re dreaming our lives now and this post doesn’t even exist.

Sing-along

Last night’s head-banging sing-along in the car:

Here I am, once again
I’m torn into pieces
Can’t deny it, can’t pretend
Just thought you were the one
Broken up, deep inside
But you won’t get to see the tears I cry
Behind these hazel eyes

Digital Ice

Ok, just in time for Christmas, here’s a nice extravagant way to impress the bling-crazy techie in your life.

The mii stor presents its “White”, “Snow” and “Ice” USB data drives, which mix data and diamonds with silver, gold or platinum cases. The top end is the “Ice” drive (pictured here) which is

  • 4GB
  • solid platinum
  • encrusted with 350 white diamonds for a total of 5.8 carats
  • and hanging from a solid platinum chain

And you get all this for the low, low price of US$40,000!! Talk about your perfect stocking stuffer.

Plain jam please

MarmaladeWonders never cease! Having shared with you all, the 30,000 calorie sandwich, the $1000US sundae and then the £85 sandwich, my journey through amazing menu items continues with the world’s most expensive marmalade. How expensive? Well, a single slice of toast would need about £76 worth of marmalade. The entire jar will run you £5000!!

The marmalade was created by jam maker F. Duerr & Sons Ltd. to mark its 125th anniversary and features the following:

Duerr’s initial plan was to make the exclusive marmalade a one-off effort, with the one-kilo jar being auctioned on eBay to raise money for the Manchester Kids charity. They found the taste so spectacular, however, that they are investigating the possibility of incorporating it into their regular product line with slightly less exotic ingredients. Not sure my budget will cover even the cheaper version though. I’ll just have to stick to my plain jam.

Idle thoughts

Ok, I was driving along the other day and for some reason the process of naming a band came to mind. I’ve loved many bands over the years and I’ve been getting into local bands recently. It struck me that there very often names of bands or groups are abbreviated to their acronyms. Here are some ideas to avoid:

  • Angels In Dire Straits
  • Secrets Till Death
  • Vocal Destiny
  • Return If Paid

Life is…

(in no particular order)

  • confusing,
  • interesting,
  • stimulating,

  • fun,

Can you…

… find a meaningful, non-weird English sentence that contains the two consecutive words “an apples” without capitalizing “apple” or adding an apostrophe?
Hint: It involves a cliché.

I found this, and thought it was interesting. I will post the answer in a comment after I see what you all come up with.

Measurement

525,600 minutes, 525,000 moments so dear.
525,600 minutes - how do you measure, measure a year?
In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee.
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife.
In 525,600 minutes - how do you measure a year in the life?
How about love? How about love? How about love?
Measure in love.
Seasons of love.

R.I.P. Coretta Scott-King

“It doesn’t matter how strong your opinions are. If you don’t use your power for positive change, you are, indeed, part of the problem.”

“I’m fulfilled in what I do… I never thought that a lot of money or fine clothes-the finer things of life-would make you happy. My concept of happiness is to be filled in a spiritual sense.”

“Love the moment and the energy of the moment will spread beyond all boundaries.”
