My first books from Anne McCaffrey were a gift from an aunt who rightly thought I would be captivated by this fantasy world. McCaffrey has written other things besides the Dragon series (not as enjoyable I find) but it was the trilogy of the first three novels in the series below that started me off. This is not a comprehensive list as in searching Amazon I found more I didn’t know existed so I will have to see if I can get all of them:

The fantasy world of Pern places dragons at the centre of its society, as they are the protection for the inhabitants. Impressing a dragon on hatching is a major event in the life of those youngsters that aspire to greater things. If this sounds too weird to you, then you probably won’t enjoy these stories of weyrs, harpers and their dragons.
