las vegas

In January 2004, I got selected to go to another IBM conference, this time in Las Vegas. Talk about a chance of a lifetime! I don’t know when I will get back there, though I would really love to return. Las Vegas was amazing - it is truly a city that never sleeps (at least on the Strip).

Highlights of this trip included: staying at the Venetian (complete with gondola-bearing canals running through the hotel), the lights along the Strip (it really is as bright as it looks on TV), the hotels themselves (the Mirage with its volcano, Camelot with the castle, the Luxor with the pyramid and the Bellagio with the incredible dancing fountains), Cirque du Soleil’s O, seeing Celine Dion live in concert and going to the Grand Canyon.

The Grand Canyon is an incredible sight, I had to make the trip to go see it. I didn’t have time to do the whole tour down into it but I did manage to fly over and then go by bus to a couple picture spots. Sitting there looking out at this immense chasm you can’t help but feel overwhelmed by its grandeur.

As much as I managed to get done on this trip, you really need more time than I had (the conference took up a lot of it) to really see Vegas. But I loved every minute of it and can’t wait to go back one day.
